Vortex Rainmaking Guns.....6 of these guns were built in Charleville during a terrible drought in 1902. They were loaded with gunpowder & the resulting explosion was supposed to change the atmospheric pressure & produce rain...guess what?!?
It didn't work!
The Black Stump! Only it isn't black & is not the original Black Stump...the original was burnt to ashes so this fossilised tree stump was placed there to mark the spot!

This was the view from our caravan at Lloyd Jones Weir,just outside Barcaldine.
The' Tree of Knowledge' at Barcaldine....the site of the Shearer's Strike in 1891....it resulted in the Labour Party being formed. In 2006 some idiot poisoned the tree which resulted in it dying,so it was sent away to be preserved....these 2 photo's show the result of this preservation.
