The Fabulous Northern Territory

The historical Daly Waters Pub...built in 1930.

Inside Daly Waters Pub...all sorts of things hanging from the ceilings & stuck to walls..any available space.

Cheers!  We had to have a drink in the famous Daly Waters Pub!

Cheers!

Bitter Springs Thermal Pools...it was fabulous!  You float down a stream & the water is around 34 degrees.

In the Bitter Springs Thermal pools hanging on for dear life...the current is quite fast.

Part of the Bitter Spring Thermal pools...a lovely setting.

Another fabulous view of the springs.

Enjoying the 34 degree water at the Mataranka Thermal pool in the Elsey National Park.

Mataranka Thermal Pool...very picturesque.

Pine Creek railway station...not in use anymore.

The Bakery at Pine Creek...I think it would have got rather hot in there!

Berry Springs Holiday Park..the crocodile enclosure.

One of the 5 small crocodiles in the enclosure.

Berry Springs Holiday Park...lovely setting.

Another view of the park.

A very brave lady with a python wrapped around her neck!  At the crocodile jumping place on the Adelaide River.

A small crocodile.

This one was bigger!

Yum!

Water buffalo in the wild at the ' Wetlands in the Wild'.

Spectacular scenery near the wetlands.

Fogg Dam...a really lovely spot.

At the wetlands at Fogg Dam...on the way to Kakadu

More from Queensland...

The main street in Ilfracombe has many, many old  pieces of steam driven machinery, old trucks & cars & a couple of heritage houses...an interesting place to spend some time.

A Furphy Water Cart...these carts were used a lot in the 1st World War to carry water to the troops.  The drivers were notorious sources of info & gossip, but not all of their news was reliable.. so the word 'Furphy' soon became another word for rumour.
Fascinating!!!!

Ransome Steam Engine probably used to drive the
shearing shed equipment.

A Brolga...our first sighting of one..sort of in the wild....it was walking down the road in the caravan park at Longreach.

Winton.....Arno's Wall.
This wall was built by Arno from rock from his opal
mine & cement...plus every bit of rubbish he could
get his hands on.  It is studded with all sorts of junk
..even a kitchen sink!!!

More junk...the fence is 70 metres long.

Two old bikes.

An Australian Bustard-never seen one before!

Still in Winton...we went out to the Musical Fence & this 'drum kit' was there also...great fun!  It made lots of noise!

Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways...110 Kilometres
from Winton.  A fantastic place to visit....the site of the world's only recorded evidence of a dinosaur stampede...95 million years ago!

Spectacular scenery at Lark Quarry.

Some of the fossils they have found at the site.

A dinosaur footprint....of a Carnosaur...a very big dinosaur.  He caused the stampede.

Another of Carnosaur's footprints & you can also see the much smaller footprints of the Ornithods who were in the stampede trying to get away from the big fellow!

Unbelievable to think that these footprints of the small Ornithod dinosaurs are 95 million years old...& we were standing there looking at them! Incredible!

This is the building which has been built  over the Stampede Footprints,to protect them. A fascinating place.

Mount Isa....a view over part of Mount Isa.

Another view....the township of Mount Isa is surrounded by mines.

Mount Isa is the largest industrial & commercial centre in north-west Queensland.  Silver, lead & zinc are mined here.
